Words From a Happy Mom
When my son, daughter and I discovered the Study Technology*, the three of us actually cried. It was an answer to our prayers. My kids went to a couple of different schools, but there were still challenges, one of them being time to do what they were interested in.
Enter Applied Scholastics Online Academy for high school. It opened up our world. My son graduated high school with honors. He says he would’ve been a high school drop-out if it hadn’t been for Applied Scholastics Online Academy.
My daughter is a very creative being who is happiest when she is doing exactly that. She begged me for months to transfer to The Applied Scholastics Online Academy program, but I was set on her graduating from her previous school and having a social group. She tried to convince me that the small social group at her school did not have common goals with her, either academically or socially, and she felt being there wasn’t helping her. I finally agreed to let her try home study with ASOA.
I am now more certain than ever that ASOA was one of the best choices we have ever made. She has flourished academically, socially, spiritually and artistically. She has become clear on the direction she wants to go and she has learned to advocate for herself. Because of the flexibility of the program, she was able to plan her life accordingly, so that she could fit in what she needed to learn and what she wanted to learn. She was able to master a new language, keep doing art, lots of art, and baking, and she improved with every task she took on. She was able to work and volunteer during her chosen hours. She got to choose how and when she could learn a subject and that made all the difference because her cooperation was so high. She took so much responsibility for her education that I didn’t really have to do much as her teacher, but be there if she needed support or had questions. She did so much more than her checklist for each program, because she had the choice to keep going and do what she was interested in; and most of the time she kept going when she was done with a subject. She mastered research and has become self-sufficient, knowing that if she decides she wants to do something, she can.
I have no words for the gratitude I feel for this program and to all the staff at ASOA, both past and present. Every interaction I’ve had with each one of the staff at ASOA has been what I dreamed of having from the beginning of my kids starting school: friendly and professional, clear communication and helpfulness, validation and desire to get the product in a way that was best for the being, and a very strong feeling in every communication that my children’s education was of great importance.
Thank you does not even begin to communicate the gratitude I feel for this program and how each of you have implemented it. You are my heroes for being a part of implementing education as it should be. It will truly change the world. My wish is that every child has the opportunity to have this kind of education. I guarantee that I’ll be singing your praises for the rest of my life. And I believe you’ll be acquiring more students when my kids start having their own. So I guess this is not goodbye, but until I become a grandmother. Wishing you all the very best.
With deepest love and gratitude,
Cecile MacMillan
